Fair Trade or Fashion
Many people still think that fair trade is for the 'hippies' or 'earth mothers' and if you buy a fair trade handbag it's going to be a bit 'out there' or have tribal designs, made of reed beds or at very best have a picture of a girraffe on it.
This is no longer true, you can have fair trade handbags that are fashion led.
In 2007 Hatti made the step of sending two talented young designers to work at our leather handbag production centre in Kathmandu, Nepal. Caroline Swarbrick and Marie De Ryck spent 5 months living and working with the girls there, all of whom had been rescued from trafficking and given a new start in life.
The result was beautiful fair trade handbags designed specifically for the UK market - Not a girraffe in sight.
