Now in it's sixth year Hatti continues to work with some amazing producer groups to bring customers hand-made, high quality, unique products from Nepal that are fair to all those involved in the production process. We are a BAFTS registers Importer and we do not import any goods that do not meet the fair trade criteria. Our suppliers either directly employ, or provide work for, some of Nepal's most disadvantaged people.

Since 2005 we have been making a difference to stigmatised and disadvantaged young women in Nepal through Fair Trade employment initially in the production of beautifully made hand bags and latterly buying from fair trade producer groups. 

Fair Trade does make a difference.  At Friend's Handicraft (our main producer group) women who wouldn't be able to find employment elsewhere due to the stigma attached to their personal situation are given a stable job, with a fair wage, good working hours and conditions, holiday pay and sick pay.

Fair Trade empowers disadvantaged young women to make choices. Due to personal circumstances (divorcees, single mothers, rescued victims of the sex trade) these women often find themselves outcast from their communities, branded ‘unclean’ and unwanted with no future to look forward to.  However, through fair trade employment they often become the highest income earner in a family and able to provide a valuable contribution, resulting in many of the girls being accepted by their communities again.  The difference is that the girls are empowered to make a choice, they are no longer desperate for acceptance, they are valued and feel valued.

People in the UK are empowered to make a choice.  Luckily we don’t often have to make a choice between eating to survive or buying a new handbag; more often it is a choice between which handbag, shoes or clothes that provides the quandary.  Now, through informed choices, women in the West are empowered to make a positive difference to people and/or the environment by choosing Fair Trade and ethical products.
